What are Dark Spots?
Dark spots, also referred to as age spots, sun spots, or acne spots, are a hyperpigmentation condition- a pigmentation irregularity leading to darkening of skin in small patches.
Common areas of dark spots include the face, hands, shoulder, neck, arms, and chest. Sometimes, dark spots on the back, dark spots on the legs, or dark spots in the eye may appear. Dark spots on the face usually show up on the nose, forehead, and cheeks.
Dark spot symptoms, including the color, size, and location, vary among every affected person. The color of spots depends on the cause and the natural tone/complexion of the skin. They can range from light to dark brown or gray-brown.
